 Chapter 6 is a continuation of five. Anthony's alter ego, Edward, and Bella are wandering through Forest Meadows. He wants to learn everything about her, and she is only learning the beginning of who he is.

Dr. Kate

A sick psychopath, Dr. Kate enjoys torturing those she feels are beneath her (which is most everyone) more than anything else. A degree is the only separating her from a tiny padded room of her own in our quaint little hospital.

Renee
 I'm not sure about IJM's choice to play Renee. For me, there was only one woman who could play someone so twisted and in her own world. Glenn Close. Fatal Attraction. She was a freakin' psycho! And just the perfect amount of crazy to be our Renee. 

Charlie

I think we've already committed Twilight Suicide for not picking the proper Bella (but she's our Bella, not the one from the movie) for our story. Definitely, there is no other man that can play Charlie other than Billy Burke. In out little story, poor Charlie meets an untimely demise. Just as he was getting the investigation into the attempted murder of Edward Masen, Sr. underway.

 Much like Stephenie Meyer first envisioned, we went with Emily Browning for our Bella. (I know, Twilight blasphemy!) We think she has that innocence about her that carries with it a dark inner soul. She understands the  world can be cruel, and she tries to carry on.

 
With the others by her side, she might have a chance.

Edward is back in this chapter.

Cedric
For all intents and purposes, Cedric is childlike innocence mixed with teenage bravado.  He's brave, loyal, kind right to very end. In our story, Cedric is Anthony's inner child. Through him, Anthony can be that innocent being that he was never allowed to be.

Jessica Stanley
Jessica is one of our resident nurses. Though nowhere near as kind as Esme, Jessica preys upon the poor souls with compassion. In short, she's a bitch of epic proportions and kind of a slut.

Richard
Richard is smarmy and persistent. His pride is most important thing to him. His God complex knows no bounds and he shows it in his treatment of others. In his complicated mind, everything is his, ripe for the taking. Stripped of his bravado, Richard is a sad man with no self esteem.

Felix
 Felix Volturri is our ward's other orderly. He's usually on night shift, opposite of Emmett. He matches Emmett's brute force, pound for pound. Don't let his charming smile fool you, he deal with no monkey business, so there is no horsing around the ward when he's around.

 Every night I sit at this desk. Day in. Day out. 7pm to 7am. It's so boring because nothing happens on this ward at night, right? So I sit and wait for something exciting, sometimes day dreaming that a handsome man will come in here and take me on this desk.  It would be so hot.

Dear Sweet Esme. Sometimes I think they forget she exists in the movies... even though she was more present in the books. But, just like both movie and book, Esme really cares about her 'children' for all intents and purposes. She wants nothing but the best for them and cares for them as if they were her own. 

Edward

Edward is our faithful protector. Strong and sincere, compassionate and vastly unhappy. But beware of crossing the line, his patience runs only so far and he is unapologetic in his quest to keep those he loves safe.

Dr. Carlisle Cullen
Dr. Cullen could never be played by anyone other than Peter Facinelli. But rather than picturing him as the blonder, more serious Cullen, I see him as more of a guy who can relax once in a while... make a joke or just have a discussion that isn't one hundred percent serious... 
aka Dr. Cooper from Nurse Jackie.

But don't get me wrong, Carlisle is still the caring man that we know and love from the Twilight Saga. He cares deeply for his patients and staff. He has their best intentions at heart. He'd be damned if someone can't be happy because of some limitation. He'd bend over backwards to make sure they were all happy in life.

Jasper Whitlock
Dearest Jasper... aka Jackson Rathbone (because there will NEVER be another Jasper IMHO... this is the fangirl talking. IJM might have different ideas). He's still that soldier we love that has the biggest heart in Texas... Or even Forks, Washington. He was dealt a wrong hand when he was sent to war in the Middle East.

 The stress of all that death, war, and personal secrets took on a toll on his psychological well being. In order to escape the stresses, his mind shut down. It took him back to a simpler time when men were gentleman and soldiers. In his mind, he lives life as a soldier in the Texas Confederate Army. And, he's happy. Isn't that all we wanted for Jasper?

Mary Alice Brandon

She is eighteen going on eight. After being abandoned by her parents, she has reverted back to her childhood, becoming the ultimate "Peter Pan Pixie".  There is something wholly innocent about her, seeing only the good in everyone. And while she does resist growing up, she will admit to liking Jasper... possibly even like-liking Jasper. Maybe.

Emmett McCarty

 What can you say about him? He's as big as a bear, and probably as soft and cuddly as a toy one. His jovial, laid-back personality just wins you over from the get go. But as fun and friendly as Emmett can be, you have got to know that when the time comes, he can barrel you down with brute force. It makes him the perfect orderly/NP (That's Nurse Practitioner) for the S. Meyer Ward of Forest Meadow.

Rosalie Hale

Like her character in Twilight, Rose has been through a great deal and reflects that bitterness outward. She's so unhappy with herself and her life that she sincerely cannot see how other people can be happy. She sees them as vulnerable and stupid as she waits for curtain to fall from the charade of joy. She believes it always does and that is the only thing guaranteed in life.

 

However, she is a fighter and I feel that her spirit matches that of Magdalena in Little Ashes. She does what she has to do--no regrets.

Mike Newton

He suffers from emotional trauma and acts out against people he views that are weaker than him.  His father ran off before he was two; his mother is a druggie who never really cared about him -- probably because he looks too much like his father. He was just brought up that way... and Dr. Cullen thought he could really help him. Unfortunately, Mike refuses that help. While he is mentioned in this chapter, he doesn't show until much later.

Eric Yorke

He has been mentally unstable his whole life, but had only recently been diagnosed with schizophrenia. He has mild states where interactions with others are calm and normal, but when he gets around someone wild or something agitates him, he is violent and dangerous.  If I were to write a whole story based on this Eric Yorke, I would definitely cast Heath Ledger in the role. He was fantastic at embracing the crazy in a character (the Joker especially).

 Riley Biers

Riley plays the janitor in our little story. We'll learn more about him later.

Mrs. Cope 

Cafeteria manager extraordinaire. While kind-hearted, she's seen it all and she's not impressed much like her role in the Harry Potter movies.

Demetri

Another orderly, who really isn't as active on our floor as originally intended, but is still present. I couldn't see him not in our story at all. He's a rather quiet fellow, who does his job perfectly.

This is the type of place they want to hide you in from the rest of the world because they don't want you around. You're an embarrassment. Dr. Cullen says he can help make you right. Yeah, as if that could ever happen for me. As soon as things happen beyond my control, he ships me off to another floor, another ward. He was just like all the rest. It didn't surprise me.

Just because I told Rosalie I'd slit her throat if she ever denied me again. Bitch! That's alright. While I sit in a small room in solitary, I am counting the moments until I can see her once again.

Damn I miss my old wing. I miss seeing her... She was so pretty...

Chapter 1

Notes: Though taking nearly a year in the making, I'm proud to say this story is completely written and will post on schedule weekly. When DJ and I began collaborating on The Double Bind, I saw it as a tribute to Rob's achievements. In my opinion, each movie/character stands alone and is great for it's own many reasons. I think each chapter of The Double Bind could be regarded the same way. While some chapters deal with tough subject matter, some are light and funny. I'd like to think there is something for everyone in here. There some Angryward, Nerdward, and even some slash. If you are not a slash lover, don't worry, we'll warn you where to skip and promise you won't lose any of the details of the story.

We did our best with researching the material...well, DJ did, every time I tried, google popped up, "Did you mean Robert Pattinson" and of course the answer to that will always be a resounding yes. So please forgive our mistakes and overlook the liberties we took, we are but mere mortals.

Writing The Double Bind was very emotional, and in some ways liberating for me and I hope you'll enjoy it as well. We'll use the blog to post pics and summaries and other goodies for you. Also, feel free to ask questions, make assumptions, or just let us know your thoughts.  ~J

Well, Miss J, we have been working on this baby since Jan 2011... Yeah, well over a year. While you saw it as a tribute to Rob's achievements (I feel the same way, but...), I saw it as doing something that I had never seen before ~ more of Rob's characters in FF. While, yes, I know about Daniel Gale fics mixed in with Twilight, I had never seen any of Rob's other characters highlighted. And, well, I thought hey, why can't some of Rob's most loved and most hated characters share the Lime Twi~Light with Edward? Rob did put his heart and soul into way more than just Edward. He should know that while some of these others may not be popular like Edward, we love them and admire his hard work in creating them. No, I didn't get google asking me if I was looking for Robert Pattinson (or Jackson Rathbone)... Usually my response was... "OH YES! You are looking for something else!" Not like I didn't wind up looking for them anyway. The Double Bind was definitely something to tackle. It took a lot to step into the shoes of the characters I was writing. I saw the story through their eyes, and hopefully told it so that it seems you are hearing if from different people. Sometimes, it took hard work to tackle a character and their feelings. A few times I found myself teary. I am very proud of our story. Miss J was a WONDERFUL writing partner to work with. When I was stuck or down, she'd manage to have an idea or ask just that right question that would open the door wide and let the character's story reign. I am so glad we did this, and I would never have been able to do it without her. THANK YOU, J!!! Okay... Now that the gushy stuff is over, what are the other goodies? Wait... Anthony
Poor Anthony (Robert Pattinson) is a lost soul, hidden away from the world. He suffers from many fears and rightfully so. His memory loss and headaches have been a large part of his life and in some ways they make life easier for him so he's never questioned them. But secrets are always exposed, even the ones we try and keep from ourselves.

Sam Uley
Of course I can see no other than Chaske Spencer for this roll. He has the stern look that goes with the difficult job that Sam has to do. In our story, Sam Uley starts out as Deputy Chief of the Forks Police Department. He is dedicated to the protection of the citizens of Forks. With the other officers, he tries his damnedest to help Anthony before the worst can happen.

Mom
I chose Rebecca Pidgeon to play the mom basically because, of all the movies Rob has done, she is the worst of his mothers.Also, her character is How to Be embodies a lot of the traits of the character in The Double Bind. She emotionally unavailable, judgmental, and neglectful. On the other hand, our character was far more verbally abusive, and bitter towards the way her life has turned out.

Dad (Ed Sr.)
Christoph Waltz plays the hard edged, cold-hearted, wildly erratic abusive father of our sweet Anthony. And, in case you've been living under a rock, he also plays the equally offensive August alongside Robert.

Paul
 Could it be anyone other than Alex Meraz? Paul is Sam's best friend and fellow officer on the Forks Police Department. He just doesn't understand why Sam cares so much for Elizabeth and Anthony, who refuse to say anything in order to be removed from their situation.

Embry & Jared
While Embry and Jared (Kiowa Gordon & Bronson Pelletier... I'm sorry, but I stick true to the Twilight wolfen characters... even if I am Team Edward/Jasper) aren't main characters in this chapter, they do work with the fellow Protect and Servers of Forks' citizens. They help handle the calls and comply with Sam's orders without question. 

Dr. Marcus
 You know, in my head I see Dr. Marcus as being old and rather creepy for a doctor. No idea why. Now, I am not sure who J feels should play him, but I chose Julian Sands, aka Dr. Hal Burns in The Haunted Airman. I think he's just the right man for this part. Dr. Marcus may only be in this chapter, but we could never over look Marcus.

Rawdy Crawley

Rawdy Crawley was Rob's character in the 2004 movie Vanity Fair with Reese Witherspoon. He had a tiny part that was ultimately cut and was uncredited. Rob, as Rawdy can only be seen in the DVD that contains deleted scenes, or lucky for us, YouTube.

In our story, Rawdy simply represents a diversion and a set for what is to come. Another tiny part. Sorry Rob.

Giselher

Rob's role as brother of the king in the made-for-TV movie, Curse of the Ring, is an epic tale of love, betrayal, and curses. 

In our story, Giselher represents Naivety. Like his movie character, he is loyal and faithful with the heart of a warrior but because he is young, he is often trivialized.In the world of others, where he exists he is in control of conflict. It's his job to judge what is real and false though he has a child's flair for the dramatic, his moral compass always points true north. He must also bare the pain of disappointment when faced with knowledge of  betrayal.Giselher also represents Anthony's wishes, things he wanted and should have had but was denied.

Anthony's House

The Masen family lives in a newer suburb of Forks, WA. Red Alder Heights is a small upscale community on the north east side of town. The houses here are nice and the yards are neatly trimmed. Well, all except for that last house on the last street that backs up to the forest's edge. That's the house... Right there at the apex of the court. They never care for their yard anymore. The blinds are shut all the time now. We've all heard the screams coming from there; we just choose to not get involved. It's not really our business.
